Dear Minister, that case is just the "tip of the iceberg phenomenon". As pointed out, nobody's son or daughter is protected or exempted from any bad deeds or behaviour because it has become a culture arising from habits performed by a large section of the community. We are all in the same boat. That is the reason for enjoining good and forbidding evil in society since if anything bad were to befall, it would spare no one be it imam's son, MP's kid or a squatter's daughter. That' s why all along we have been harping on the federal government to check on activities that tend to promote excessive free mixing of both boys and girls, mode of dressing that excite the "male's instinct", television programmes and films that appeal to the "low desires", dens and places of vices, concerts and shows that tend to get hysterical, and the list goes on.

Hedonistic culture has got its price. We have to pay for it. We have no other option. It is not too late to do something about it. Let us be united on this issue and forget our political differences. The future of the younger generation is at stake. We can do something to halt these negative values permeating and fungating in our society.

Moral policing may not be the cup of tea to the critics and to those that condone "excessive personal freedom and liberties". Where is the limits of personal freedom? Where is the start for the social obligation of the government in ensuring social ills and its impact on society at large is minimised if not eliminated. Come 2020, there will be more children born out of wedlock, more AIDS/HIV infected individuals, more drug addicts, more alcoholism cases, more family breakups, more divorce cases, higher crime rates, higher abortion rate, higher rate of suicides, ......and if we are lucky enough we shall be in the Guinness Book of Records for........ Teens well schooled in sex

FOR only RM5, an adolescent gets to experience sex with his schoolmates. This was the shocking revelation recorded by counsellors who organised a youth camp for problematic secondary school students in Selangor recently.

In a front-page report in Metro Ahad, a 14-year-old student known as “Andy” admitted to paying RM5 “for a round of sex” with a senior at school, adding they would either “do it” at his or her home.

He said both parents were unaware of the activities as they thought the two were studying together and confessed that sometimes, one of his friends would join them for a “threesome”.

“If I need sex, I only have to call or send her an SMS for an appointment.

“It all started when I began watching pornographic clips with my friend two years ago. Since then, my desire for sex grew and when I knew that this girl in school did not mind doing it for a fee, I decided to try it with her,” he said.

Camp organising committee secretary Mahezan Baharom said the counsellors were shocked with how “frank and candid” the students were about their sexual activities although they were aware that they should not be having sex at their age.

Mahezan said apart from sex, the participants – aged between 13 and 15 – admitted to masturbating in a group, having multiple sex partners, consuming alcohol, glue sniffing, theft and smoking.

“Students who are involved in social ills or misfits do not only come from poor families. We have participants whose parents are well to do, VIPs and those whose mothers and fathers are religious people,” he said.

Special programme for people in need of aid

> Berita Minggu reported the Welfare Department was embarking on a programme to detect those in need of aid.

Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen said under “Program Cari”, welfare officers would go around to identify those who needed help instead of waiting to process applications for aid.

“This is part of our plan to transform the ministry and widen our scope of services to the community, especially to those in need. The officers will go to the ground and look for people who are eligible for aid because some may not know how to get desperately needed help,” she said.
