There was negligence on the part of MACC, admits Abu Kassim
KUALA LUMPUR (July 20, 2009) : Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) deputy chief commissioner Datuk Abu Kassim Mohamed admitted that there was negligence on the part of the commission in ensuring the safety of Teoh Beng Hock, and said remedial steps will be taken.
Teoh, the political aide to Selangor exco member Ean-Yong Hian Wah, was found dead on the level five landing of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, where the state MACC office is located, hours after he was interrogated by MACC officials on Thursday.
"We have to regain the public's confidence so that they dare to come forward to assist us in our investigations," Abu Kassim said.
He told Nanyang Siang Pau on Sunday that the incident had greatly affected MACC's image.
"All our efforts so far have gone to waste because of the incident," he was quoted as saying.
He said if police investigations implicate any MACC officer in Teoh's death, the commission will ask the police to take action.
Abu Kassim said that according to state MACC officers, they thought Teoh had left the office after interrogation and did pay attention to his whereabouts. This was negligence on the part of the officers, he said.
However, he did not feel that there was inadequate security at the MACC office as it is manned by officers round the clock.
"Teoh came to the MACC office to have his statement taken under very safe situation," he said.
Laporan awal bedah siasat oleh dua pakar patologi kelmarin menunjukkan mangsa mengalami pelbagai kecederaan akibat jatuh dari tempat tinggi.

To date, the police have recorded statements from 33 witnesses including 25 MACC officers

KLSCAH ( Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall ) is also calling for Minister at the Prime Minister Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz to apologise unreservedly to Teoh's family for speculating that he had jumped off the building ahead of the conclusion of investigations into the incident.
The MACC said Teoh was last seen alive and sleeping at 6am on a sofa on the 14th floor of its headquarters.

"Abuse Of Power " in the Way Teoh was questioned
Although the MACC had said that Teoh was merely a witness to the case and not a suspect, it did not say why they had taken away and kept his belongings including his handphone.
It is learnt that based on their early findings, investigators who have not ruled out foul play in the case though it has been classified as sudden death believe Teoh fell from the 14th floor as he had never left the office.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan, who turned up at the Selangor contingent police headquarters for a briefing, told reporters the probe into Teoh's death was about 60% complete. He said police will keep the media updated on the progress of the investigations.

The team were seen looking out of the office window on the 14th floor before removing and taking a window ledge.
They also went into the building’s security control room on the fourth floor and are believe to have some recording equipment.
