Taib says he has identified his successor
April 12, 2011
KUCHING, April 12 — Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said today he has identified his successor, but did not name the person.
Saying that he has groomed his successor for 20 years, he said the person replacing him must be acceptable not only to the Sarawak Barisan Nasional (BN) but also the people.
He said he must choose the best person to take over from him, one who could work as a team.
The team taking over must be able to work together to ensure that all government policies and plans were implemented smoothly, he added.
On the view that he had been chief minister for too long, Taib said he chose to stay after the 2006 state election because the SUPP lost several seats and he had to “groom new talents.”
