KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 28 (Bernama) -- The death of Deputy Education Minister Datuk Razali Ismail is a big loss to Umno and his ministry, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. He said Razali was a highly talented person and had discharged the responsibilities entrusted to him very well. Abdullah also described him as a person with vast experience and a Member of Parliament of calibre. He said, as deputy minister, Razali was well versed in his ministry's policies. "He had proven himself as a deputy minister and was able to understand government policies well. "I had placed high hopes that one day he could become Education Minister. But what to do, fate has intervened," he told reporters after attending the Malaysian Investment Banking Association's 29th annual dinner here today. Abdullah also extended his condolences the bereaved family. "I was shocked to hear the news of his death. I never knew he had any illnesses or heart problems," he said. Razali, 59, who was also the Member of Parliament for Kuala Terengganu, collapsed and died at 6.30pm today while playing badminton at Institut Aminuddin Baki, Genting Highlands near here. He leaves behind a wife and five children.

KUALA LUMPUR, 29 Nov (Hrkh) - Naib Presiden PAS, Mohamad Sabu menyifatkan Timbalan Menteri Pelajaran Datuk Razali Ismail yang meninggal dunia semalam menjalankan tugas secara professional dan mengatasi politik kepartian.
"Allahyarham Razali bagi saya adalah seorang Timbalan Menteri yang professional dan mengatasi politik kepartian walaupun beliau datang dari negeri yang sangat kuat mendiskriminasikan rakyat yang menentang Umno dan negeri Wang Ehsan (setelah royalti minyak disekat)," katanya.
Razali Ismail meninggal dunia secara mengejut di Institut Aminuddin Baki, Genting Highlands kira-kira pukul 6.30 petang semalam.
Ketua Penerangan PAS Mahfuz Omar pula menyifatkan kematian Razali sebagai kehilangan yang besar kepada dunia pendidikan.
"Kementerian Pelajaran kehilangan Timbalan Menterinya yang sangat berwibawa, komited dan dedikasi kepada tugasnya," katanya.
Allahyarham Razali, kata Mahfuz, sangat memahami dan menguasai bidang pendidikan dan sentiasa memberikan jawapan yang bersemangat mengenai pendidikan di Dewan Rakyat.
"Selain sifatnya yang diakui ramai Ahli Parlimen kerajaan dan juga pembangkang sebagai baik dan berbudi bahasa, cara Ismail menjawab soalan yang dikemukakan kepada kementeriannya juga menyebabkan beliau dihormati.
"Bila menjawab, beliau begitu bersemangat. Saya rasa hampir tidak pernah berlaku ahli-ahli Parlimen pembangkang bercakap dengan kasar kepada Ismail dalam Dewan.
"Mungkin ada, tetapi amat sukar diingati perkara sedemikian pernah berlaku," kata Ahli Parlimen Pokok Sena itu.
Razali juga, kata Mahfuz, begitu komited untuk membina generasi muda yang berilmu.
Sebelum menceburi bidang politik, Ahli Parlimen Kuala Terengganu itu adalah pegawai Kementerian Pelajaran.
Mohamad dan Mahfuz mengucapkan takziah kepada balu Allahyarham, Datin Nooraini Lob Yusoff dan keluarganya.
Dalam pilihan raya umum 8 Mac lalu, Razali menewaskan Mohamad dengan majoriti 628 undi.
