NOV 21 — “If I were Chinese, I, too, would not support the MCA.”
Those words will ring in the ear of every single MCA member for a long time as the crudest statement uttered by a component party member.
The fact that the statement came from the Deputy Prime Minister and Umno’s Deputy President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has made it even more compelling.
It signals a major shift in the sacred policy of non-interference among the Barisan Nasional component parties.
Gone are the days when each component party’s business was theirs and theirs alone.
Prior to this, the camaraderie between BN members have been tested time and again but it rarely caused any shockwave, not to the extent that the sanctity of this policy is challenged.

When Umno was rejected overwhelmingly by the Malays due to the sacking and ill-treatment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, MCA again stood by Umno unflinchingly.
Even though Umno lost many Malay-majority seats, which led to their loss of Terengganu in the 1999 General Election, MCA stoutly defended their partner-in-crime.
Former MCA presidents Ling and Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting have strengthened the notion that Umno is the backbone of BN and that Ketuanan Melayu à la Umno is here to stay.
It is the leaders of MCA that has ensured Umno’s longevity and placed an aura of invincibility in the minds of Umno leaders.
Umno can do no wrong and the false sense of supremacy lingers on in the minds of Umno’s party rank-and-file.

The emergence of East Malaysian parties as a force within BN following the 2008 General Election has further decimated the significance of MCA and also pushed MIC, Gerakan and PPP deep into oblivion.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is running out of time to put everything into place before he calls for a general election, to seek a fresh mandate, in the next 12 to 18 months.
Najib would also want to maintain the pressure on Pakatan Rakyat with continuous attacks on the Selangor, Penang, Kedah and Kelantan state governments.
However, the leadership crisis in MCA is proving somewhat a distraction to BN’s upswing following the political tsunami of 2008.
In order to maintain the upswing, Najib needs an MCA that is able to regain its place as the biggest Chinese party apart from DAP.
With the way things are headed, it leaves Najib with no choice but to interfere and meddle in MCA’s affairs as he is running out of options to revive MCA from its deep coma.
The DAP-led Penang Pakatan government is doing well enough to ensure that the state will still remain under Pakatan in the next elections.
On the other hand, opposition leader Anwar has recently shown signs of urgency and taken concrete steps in putting his party, PKR, in order.
Anwar’s appointment as Selangor’s economic adviser is a statement of caution to Najib that he will not take the political bullying from Umno lying down.
If Anwar can effect change by ensuring decisive and prompt decision-making in the Selangor state government, and also bring in badly needed investments as well as increase the confidence of the hard-hit business community, the pendulum will surely swing his way instead of Najib’s.
The political temperature is likely to increase in the run up to the next general election.
However, the impotency of MCA is a drawback for Najib in his quest to maintain his premiership.

Dalam keadaan sebak, Ketua Pemuda MCA, Datuk Wee Ka Siong dan Ketua Wanita, Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun merayu kepada semua perwakilan parti itu supaya menghadiri mesyuarat agung luar biasa (EGM) pada 28 November ini untuk mendesak supaya diadakan pemilihan baru parti.
Bercakap dalam sidang akhbar sejurus selepas mereka digugurkan dari majlis presiden MCA, mereka berkata, kehadiran penuh perwakilan di EGM tersebut adalah penting untuk memulihkan demokrasi dalam parti itu.
Sidang akhbar itu bermula dengan naib presiden, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai berkata hati kumpulan tersebut 'terluka' ekoran pengguguran sembilan anggota majlis tersebut.
Beliau menyifatkan tindakan MCA 'membuang" ketua Pemuda dan Wanitanya sebagai satu tindakan yang tidak boleh dimaafkan lagi.
Liow mendakwa presiden memilih orangnya sendiri dan menyingkirkan mereka yang tidak sehaluan dengannya, supaya beliau mempunyai kuasa mutlak dalam majlis presiden.
Berikutan itu, beliau menggesa semua perwakilan MCA supaya 'bangun" dan beramai-ramai datang menghadiri EGM 28 November ini untuk meluluskan resolusinya.
Katanya, ini adalah masanya untuk mereka membuat keputusan bagi membawa perubahan demi kebaikan parti.
MCA, katanya, mesti mengembalikan politik nilai dan mempertahankan prinsip-prinsip demokrasi.
Liow yang kelihatan tegas tetapi tenang, dapat menguasai dirinya dan tidak menangis.
Sebelum ini, jawatankuasa pusat MCA telah mengundi menolak EGM tersebut yang diusahakan oleh penyokong Liow.

Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek mendapat semula jawatannya sebagai timbalan presiden MCA selepas digugurkan susulan dipecat daripada parti kira-kira dua bulan lalu.
Ketika dihubungi Malaysiakini SMS, Chua mengesahkan Pendaftar Pertubuhan (ROS) telah mengesahkan beliau masih memegang jawatan tersebut.
"Betul, terima kasih," jawabnya ringkas.
Pengumuman mengejut itu dibuat oleh ROS hari ini ketika jawatankuasa pusat parti itu sedang mengadakan mesyuarat di ibu pejabatnya di Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur tengah hari ini.
Surat ROS itu dihantar terus kepada kepemimpinan MCA.
Kedudukan ini mengembalikan senario sebelum krisis parti itu - akibat pemecatan Dr Chua dan keputusan mesyuarat agung luar biasa MCA awal bulan ini - dan sekali gus memeningkan kepada Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai yang dilantik menggantikan Dr Chua.
Naib presiden itu, yang dilantik kepada jawatan nombor dua tersebut pada 15 Oktober lalu, dianggap melawan Presiden MCA Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat selepas kumpulannya mendesak pemilihan baru parti diadakan.
Ketika tiba jam 1.10 tengah hari di Wisma MCA, tempat mesyuarat itu diadakan kira-kira 10 minit kemudian, Dr Chua kelihatan tenang dan kemudian melangkah terus ke bilik mesyuarat. C
Chua dipecat dari jawatan timbalan pesiden pada 26 Ogos, tetapi jawatankuasa pusat MCA kemudiannya membatalkan keputusan itu dan sebaliknya menggantung keahlian bekas menteri kesihatan itu selama empat tahun.
Dalam perkembangan berkaitan, MCA juga memecat empat anggota jawatankuasa pusatnya yang dilantik - satu lagi tindakan ke arah mengukuhkan parti selepas dilanda krisis sejak Ogos lalu.

Mereka yang dipecat itu ialah Datuk Chor Chee Heung, Datuk Chai Kim Sen, Yoo Wei How dan Gan Hon Su - semuanya penyokong Timbalan Presiden yang baru dilantik, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

Chua Akan Berehat
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 Ogos (Bernama) -- Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, yang dipecat oleh MCA semalam, mahu bercuti dengan "keluarga dan rakan" dan berehat.
Menulis dalam blognya, bekas timbalan presiden parti itu tidak memberikan sebarang petunjuk sama ada beliau akan mengemukakan rayuan dalam 14 hari atau merujuk kepada spekulasi mesyuarat agung luarbiasa sebagai langkah seterusnya.
Majlis Presiden MCA malam tadi menerima cadangan jawatankuasa disiplin parti untuk memecatnya daripada parti kerana telah mencemarkan imej parti berhubung video skandal seksnya pada 2007.
"Rakan-rakan semua, beri peluang kepada saya untuk berehat. Orang akan berfikir yang saya akan berkerja keras, tetapi seperti biasa, saya menerima semua itu dengan fikiran terbuka.
"Semoga, saya akan hidup lebih lama untuk menikmati hari mendatang dan menghadapi satu lagi pertarungan," katanya.
Ahli politik yang terkenal lantang bersuara itu, yang telah bersama MCA hampir suku abad, tetap kental menghadapi semua itu, menyatakan beliau pernah berada dalam kedudukan lebih teruk apabila beliau meletakkan semua jawatan parti dan kerajaan pada Januari tahun lepas, selepas video itu muncul.
"Saya tidak sangka yang lembaga disiplin MCA, diketuai peguam yang sudah berusia, mendapati adalah sesuai untuk mencadangkan supaya saya dipecat, 21 bulan selepas saya meletakkan semua jawatan parti dan kerajaan bagi alasan yang sama semasa saya meletakkan jawatan pada Januari 2008.

EXCO MTES (Mesyuarat Tindakan Ekonomi Selangor) pada 03 Julai 2009 telah memutuskan untuk mengarahkan UPEN (Unit Tindakan Ekonomi Selangor) bertindak sebagai Sekretariat bersama dengan Jabatan Perancang Bandar, MPK (Majlis Perbandaran Klang), Pejabat Tanah Klang dan Lembaga Urusan Air Selangor (LUAS) bagi mengenalpasti lokasi yang paling sesuai untuk ditempatkan JETI AWAM PULAU KETAM (JAPK) untuk kemudahan penduduk Pulau Ketam dan Sungai Lima serta pengguna lain.
Saya selaku ADUN Selat Klang telah membawa masalah yang dihadapi oleh rakyat yang tinggal di Pulau Ketam dan Sg Lima yang mutakhir ini resah dan gelisah apabila JETI AWAM PULAU KETAM "tenggelam". Pengguna telah menggunakan jeti Jabatan Perikanan buat sementara waktu tetapi tersebar satu khabar angin mengatakan kebenaran menggunakan jeti ini akan ditamatkan pada penghujung Julai 2009.
Mereka telah didalangi oleh pihak-pihak tertentu untuk untuk mengadakan piket. Dilaporkan MCA diketuai oleh Peengerusi JKKKP telah menyewa bot untuk penduduk Pulau Ketam agar datang beramai-ramai ke tanah besar serta makan minum ditanggung. Tujuan berdemonstrasi ialah untuk mendapatkan jeti percuma tanpa berbayar dari Kerajaan Negeri Selangor.
Satu jeti swasta berbayar bagi penduduk Pulau Ketam dan Sg Lima kini sedang dibina oleh syarikat ASA Niaga Sdn Bhd, pemilik Projek Harbour City yang telah diberi tanah oleh kerajaan Barisan Nasional di bawah Dr Khir Toyo. Sila rujuk SINI.
Dalam perancangan Kerajaan Barisan Nasional, mereka telah lupa tentang nasib penduduk Pulau Ketam dan Sg Lima apabila mahu menswastakan pelabuhan dan jeti. Barisan Nasional lupa bahawa penduduk Pulau Ketam yang rata-ratanya nelayan terpaksa menggunakan bot dan feri bagi tujuan berulangalik ke tanah besar Pelabuhan Klang serta menjual tangkapan ikan dan mendapatkan bekalan dari Pelabuhan Klang dan Klang sendiri.
Alhamdulillah, atas dasar keprihatinan dan merakyatkan ekonomi Selangor, Dato' MB serta para Exco yang lain telah sebulat suara bersetuju agar Kerajaan Pakatan Rakyat Selangor mengkaji serta membina JTPK kekal di suatu tempat yang sesuai serta strategik untuk penduduk dalam urusan mereka seharian.

Ahmad's rights suspended for 3 years

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 10, 2008): Umno Bukit Bendera division chief Datuk Ahmad described his suspension as “fated” and said he accepted the decision of the Supreme Council with an open heart.
In a press conference held immediately after Abdullah announced the council’s decision, Ahmad said although he felt sad, he loved the party and promised to make a comeback.
“I thank Pak Lah and Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak for bringing my case to Umno for it to decide rather than to BN. This is the right thing to do. If they had brought it to the BN for it to decide, I would not agree,” he said.
He claimed that more than 10 buses of supporters had wanted to come and protest in front of the Umno building yesterday but he appealed to them not to do so in order not to create chaos.
He also urged his supporters, especially in Bukit Bendera, to remain calm, adding he will go round the country to explain the situation to party members.
Asked whether he is prepared to face the Internal Security Act, he retorted by asking the reporter whether she was trying to commit an offence under the Sedition Act.
The party has also decided that all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties must be strict and take disciplinary action against any members who act or make any statements which can rouse anger and affect the relationship between coalition members.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who is also Umno president, told a press conference the decision was reached during the Supreme Council meeting today which had convened specifically to discuss Ahmad’s case.
"The Supreme Council was of the view that Ahmad’s statements and action which had created unease, anger and objections from among BN component parties were serious and decided to suspend his rights in the party for three years according to Article 20.9 of the party constitution," he said at the party headquarters.
According to Article 20.9, any member who breaches the provisions of the constitution or the party’s code of ethics can
> be imposed with a warning;
> have his rights in the party suspended;
> be prohibited from competing in any post in the party or as a candidate in the state or general election for any period determined by the supreme council;
> be dismissed from the party; or
> be imposed with any other punishment reasonable and in accordance with the constitution.
Ahmad had roused anger among MCA and Gerakan members and leaders with his statement at a political ceramah in Permatang Pauh on Aug 23 that the Chinese community are "lodgers" (penumpang) in the country and are not entitled to equal rights as bumiputras.
Police reports had been lodged against him and there have been calls for him to apologise but he refused to do so.
The BN supreme council had yesterday decided to leave it to Umno to deal with Ahmad.
Abdullah said the cabinet yesterday also discussed race relations in the country and agreed that there have been signs that the situation could lead to tension among the different races.
This is because many people have touched on sensitive issues which have never been raised before all these while and this has created a lot of negative reactions, he said.
"All this while, we have managed to control the situation to avoid undesirable incidents but we cannot allow such a situation to continue as it could disrupt public harmony.
"Therefore, we have decided to instruct all ministries (empowered) with the relevant laws to enforce them so that hopefully, the people will understand that in a multi-racial country like ours, it is important to maintain peace and order and respect towards each other," he said.
Asked whether this means the Internal Security Act can be imposed in such cases, he said:
"If necessary, if necessary, I would like to stress it, if necessary and such an action (ISA) is appropriate to be taken, I believe the (Home) Minister would also think it is proper for such action to be taken."
To a question on whether action would be taken against the newspaper which reported Ahmad's statement, he said the decision would be made by the Home Ministry.
"Matters relating to the press, matters relating to the actions of people outside the party, as I've just said, will be decided by the relevant government departments or ministries like the Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysia Police."
He said if the political parties sensed that something had potential to create a bad situation in the country, they should lodge police reports and the same applied to the people if they felt that something not right had occurred, so that action could be taken under the law.
MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting: The persistence and efforts made by MCA, BN component parties, Chinese community and the press have got fruitful result as Umno has kept its promise to sanction Ahmad Ismail. MCA stressed that it will not tolerate and forgive anyone who broke the racial harmony and questioned the legality of the citizenship of any race in the country and the party will continue to uphold this principle in BN. The incident taught all a lesson that no one shall repeat the same mistake Ahmad made, regardless of which parties he or she is from. On whether Penang MCA will restore ties with the state Umno, Penang Umno will first assess the future political scenarioin the state and decide later.
Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein: The three-year suspension on Ahmad is a landmark decision. With this decision and the one taken by the today to ensure racial harmony is preserved, I hope all in the Barisan Nasional do not act in a manner that will be detrimental to the coalition. Component parties in the BN should emulate Umno and take stern action against any of their members who try to jeopardise national unity.
Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lien Hoe: I'm glad that the Umno Supreme Council's decision that Ahmad Ismail's remarks were indeed racist remarks. However, the hurt, the trauma, the anguish the Chinese community suffered and the attitude and the arrogant mannerism that Ahmad Ismail took, the accusations hurled at Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon and Gerakan, his unwarranted act of tearing Koh's picture, his disrespect and derogatory statements towards Tan Sri, a BN component party leader, does not substantiate the sentence meted out by the Umno Supreme Council. In other words, the sentence of three years suspension is a very light sentence compared with the gravity of his remarks and his actions.
Penang Umno deputy liaison chief Datuk Seri Abdul Rashid Abdullah: The decision to suspend Ahmad is appropriate and Penang Umno accepts the decision and we feel it is in the best interest of all. We will decide on the next course of action after studying in detail the punishment meted out to Ahmad.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan: The outcome shows the importance of the Barisan Nasional (BN) spirit. If such sensitive issues are not dealt with through the BN conduit, it will never end and it may evolved into a more serious and complicated racial issue. The incident taught us that since the country's independence 51 years ago, we must view the future openly; we cannot be too extreme and take the old path. Extreme and narrow thinking will destroy the country we built together. To make the country stronger, the people must learn to respect each other and stay united. We should learn from Ahmad Ismail's incident.
Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Liew Vui Keong : It was a timely and stern action and is reflective of Abdullah's call yesterday to BN component parties to have mutual respect for each other. By the same token, I've no doubt that all BN component heads will ensure that their members toe the line and not raise issues that can hurt the feelings of others.
Guan Eng: Umno should have expelled Ahmad
Umno should have expelled its Bukit Bendera division chief Datuk Ahmad Ismail to prove it disassociates itself completely from his extremist racist views, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
Noting that Ahmad had threatened violence against other Malaysians, especially the Chinese, he also questioned why there was no disciplinary action taken against Penang Umno committee which had supported him in the matter.
“Why is no action taken against Penang Umno for supporting Ahmad?” he asked in a brief statement in response to Umno's announcement that it was suspending Ahmad for three years for allegedly making anti-Chinese comments.
“No one will believe Umno’s sincerity and commitment in defending the rights of all regardless of race and religion,” Lim added.
He also questioned why there was nothing said against Umno members who threatened to shoot the reporter behind the story on Ahmad’s remarks that Chinese are “squatters” and could not have same rights as Bumiputras.safer, peaceful and prosperous nation together without any regard to the color of our skin.
Koh: Action is a step in the right direction
Umon’s decision to suspend its Bukit Bendera division head Datuk Ahmad Ismail is “a step in the right direction”, Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said today.
“We hope this will serve as deterrent against similar irresponsible and insensitive actions,” Koh said in a statement.
“As several police reports have also been lodged against Ahmad Ismail, it is incumbent that the police take the necessary action in accordance with the relevant legal provisions and procedure,” he added.
“In the meantime, BN should proceed with the Code of Conduct as proposed by me and announced by the BN chairman (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) yesterday.”
Koh stressed that there were many pressing matters affecting the nation.
“We should all focus our efforts in implementing the various proposed reforms and accelerate the various measures to reduce the people’s economic and financial burden,” he said.
“We should also redouble our efforts in promoting greater understanding, harmony and unity amongst Malaysians from all ethnic and social backgrounds.”

Bagi PAS pula tempoh penggantungan pemimpin Umno Pulau Pinang itu selama tiga tahun tidak ubah seperti pilih kasih.
Mursyidul Am, Tuan Guru Dato' Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat berkata, sekiranya pihak lain yang membangkitkan isu perkauman seperti pernah dicetuskan Ahmad sudah tentu dikenakan tindakan ISA dan bukan sekadar tindakan tatatertib oleh parti.
"Kalau orang lain yang buat kenyataan berunsur perkauman ISAlah jawabnya, tak ada soal jawab dah, nampak sangat keputusan tu dibuat kerana pilih kasih," ujarnya pada persidangan media di pejabatnya hari ini.

"MCA talks to other BN components parties but never to DAP. When UMNO talks to PAS about race and religion it has the duty to disclose the specifics of their discussions".
MCA to seek details of Umno-Pas meetings
NSTonline 25/07/08KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA will seek details from Umno on its meetings with Pas at the next Barisan Nasional supreme council meeting. MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said the party was interested to know what Umno and Pas talked about, especially since the topics revolved around race and religion.
"Umno has the right to meet with any political party. But when they talk to Pas about racial and religious issues, Umno as the leading component party in BN, which is a multicultural coalition, has the duty to disclose the specifics of their discussions to the other component parties," said Ong after chairing MCA's central committee meeting yesterday.
Ong said if Umno was not transparent on their meetings with Pas, many misunderstandings and speculations will result, which ultimately would be detrimental to the coalition in terms of support from the people.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi revealed on July 20 that Umno and Pas had been holding talks to address issues on Islam and Malay unity. "Barisan Nasional has always championed the rights of every race in the country. So when discussing matters of religion and race with Pas, Umno must remember to take into consideration the feelings and interests of the other multiracial component parties.
"They must not compromise on the rights of the other races," he added.
Asked if the MCA condoned Umno's meetings with Pas, Ong replied that the party did not agree with such meetings but did not condemn it either.

SETIAKAWAN PADA ZAHIR, BERLAWAN DI DALAM

BN mengamalkan politik Machiavelli iaitu matlamat menghalalkan cara. Orang buat dia kata tak berprinsip tetapi dia buat boleh dan dikatakan ada "kelas".
