Najib menegaskan bahawa semua tuduhan ke atas dirinya adalah tidak benar, berniat jahat dan pendustaan yang tak berasas. Saya telah menjawabnya tetapi mereka masih berdegil kerana itu adalah taktik pembangkang." Najib Confident Of Tackling Personal Allegations Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today he could 'tackle' the allegations by the opposition linking him to several issues which had already been clarified.
" All these allegations are not true. They are malicious, baseless lies. I have given my reply but they persist because that is the opposition's ploy."
Prime Minister soon-to-be asked to be given fair treatment by the media in reporting issues concerning him, especially when the issues had been explained.
When asked by a foreign journalist whether his elevation as Umno president without a contest had tainted democracy in the country, Najib responded: "Why do you form this judgment about me. This judgement is not fair."
"Insya Allah (God willing), we will manage because they are not true. They are malicious, baseless lies. I have given my reply but they persist because that is the opposition's ploy," he told the media at the conclusion of the 2008 Umno general assembly here.
"It is deliberately done by the opposition. I have already made my statements all the necessary answers, but they continue. But we will handle it.
"We will do it. We know what to do. You give me a chance. Do not judge me on rumours and baseless allegations. I will do and I will reform, and I will make changes. And I am aware that the people expect me to do certain things," he said.
Najib, who will assume the post of Prime Minister soon, also asked to be given fair treatment by the media in reporting issues concerning him, especially when the issues had been explained.
When asked by a foreign journalist whether his elevation as Umno president without a contest had tainted democracy in the country, Najib responded: "Why do you form this judgment about me. This judgement is not fair."
"You are pre-judging me even before I take office. And I don't think on the basis of being a journalist you must uphold the principle of being fair. You are not being fair if you pre-judge somebody.
"Please judge me by my action. My action will come in due course. I am not even taking office yet. Give me a chance to take office. I am only asking to be fair and be treated fairly by the press."
When asked to comment on the request by certain quarters that he should 'brush aside' family and friends in administering the country later, Najib said: "Again judge me by my action."
"You do seem to jump into conclusion even before I take over office. I have not even taken over office. I have not even announced and I have not even done anything and yet you persist with a certain line of thinking towards me. I do not think that is fair."
On the barring of Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam from contesting the Umno deputy presidency, Najib said: "As far as we are concerned, (Mohd) Ali was being punished in the sense that Lembaga Disiplin (Umno Disciplinary Board) decided that he should not contest. So not being able to contest is already a big punishment. You can see the delegates felt okay. He has certain roles to play in the party and let him do so."
Also present at the media conference was deputy Umno president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also the Minister of International Trade and Industry.
