Kaji semula PLKN ekoran insiden kematian

MP criticises lack of security at Chini NS camp
KUALA LUMPUR (July 1, 2009): Fuziah Salleh (PKR-Kuantan) took to task the Chini national service camp commandant in Pahang for the lack of security that led to a gang fight and a molest case in the camp.
In a press conference in Parliament lobby today, Fuziah said a "gang" fight involving 100 trainees broke out on June 27 when they were instructed by a trainer to arrange the stools in a mess hall.
"There was only one trainer who tried to defuse the fight but ended up being beaten too. The police arrested 17 trainees and detained them in the Pekan police headquarters.
"Their parents were summoned to the police headquarters the next day and the trainees were only released on the third day and returned to the camp, except for five traumatised trainees who returned home," she said.
Fuziah said parents were still worried about the camp's security and regretted that their children were not relocated to another camp to avoid being a target of revenge.
She also told reporters that a father complained to her that his 18-year-old daughter was molested by 20 male trainees while making a telephone call in booth in the camp on June 23.
"Although a police report was lodged, she had failed to identify the culprits because she was traumatised and the place was too dark at night. Her father took her home on June 24 and the camp gave her off until June 26. But after medical check-up, she was given medical leave until June 29.
"The girl is still too traumatised to return to camp but the commandant has ordered her to return or action would be taken against her," she said.
Fuziah said she had tried to contact the camp commandant but the officer refused to respond to any query.
"The government, in this case, has failed to ensure a comprehensive security plan for NS trainees and neglected the aspect of 'cultural shock' which the trainees might have to experience because they come from differing backgrounds.
"The authorities must take a multi-phase approach in the recruitment of trainees and ensure that there are enough trainers," she added.
