GMI's president Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, who handed two memorandum to Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) Commissioner Datuk S.Siva Subramaniam at Suhakam today, said the three are Agus Salim, 32, Abdul Matin Anol Rahmat, 60, and Johar Hassan.
He said Agus, who is a cook in a restaurant in Larkin, Johor, was arrested on March 5, 2009, while Abdul Matin was arrested on April 1 at 7.30am in Ulu Tiram, Johor Baru. However, there is no information on Johar.
In the first memorandum, GMI is urging the government to ensure the safety of the three detainees, allow them to meet their lawyers and family members, release them immediately or charge them in court and for the Home Ministry to give explanation to the wife and family members.
Syed Ibrahim said with the three latest arrests, there are now 30 people under ISA detention. Of the number, four have been detained for more than six years.
Agus Salim's brother Junaidi Bahri Swarno and mother Kartem from Medan, Indonesia, were also present. Kartem, who was in tears, said she wanted her son to be released.
In the second memorandum, GMI wants effective steps to enhance confidence in citizens in those entrusted with national security by abolishment of prevention and "no trial" laws, especially ISA, create new laws for national security with provision for clear evidence and trials, to create court reviews to remove arbitrary powers and abuse, to set up an Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC), release all ISA detainees without conditions and recommend compensation to former detainees and family.
GMI also recommended Suhakam to bring this matter to government.
